SYDNEY’S WILD WEATHER CAN CAUSE REAL DISASTER!

Autumn – Change of Season has arrived.

Don’t wait for a disaster to happen… put a preventative plan into action today with Mr Drains.

Autumn has fallen upon us. So too will the leaves from deciduous trees! With more heavy rain forecasted for March, this is the time to have your gutters cleared… ready for this natural process to occur.   Mr Drains can clean down all the roof tiles and valley iron of tree debris. We will remove leaves, branches and debris from all the guttering and down pipe nozzles on the roof. We will check roofs for broken or cracked tiles and examine flashing, clean work areas and remove all waste material.

  1. oSydney Water encourages sustainable water use. At 30 June 2012, total water use was 297 litres a person a day, well below our Operating Licence water use target of 329 litres a day.
  2. oThis includes water used by the residential sector, businesses, industry and for irrigation. This is an excellent achievement by the community and reflects ongoing efforts to maintain water saving behaviours adopted during drought restrictions. It also reflects a general decline in the use of drinking water by the non‑residential sector.
  3. oSydney Water continues to encourage water saving behaviours through Water Wise Rules. These are simple, common sense actions that apply to all Sydney Water customers.
  4. oSydney Water expects that water use will remain at about this level until at least 2015.
  5. oSydney Water’s approach to water efficiency is changing. After more than a decade of sustained effort, the biggest gains in water savings are already made. Our overall focus for water efficiency now is to deliver services that our customers value, in a way that keeps bills low.

So your sewer has blocked, what next? Here are 4 real options:

  1. 1.Clear the Drain – Although this is just a haircut of the tree roots and the pipe, it is a fast and inexpensive solution to the problem at hand. It is a process when high pressure water is used to cut tree roots from the line and remove any debris blockages. While efficient and effective when tree roots are cut (either mechanically or by water) the trees natural reaction is to grow those roots back quicker and stronger. This in turn means the drain will block faster and eventually the roots will cause permanent damage to the line.
  2. 2.Root Treatment – Kill the roots in the drain before they damage the pipeA two part herbicide which is mixed with foam (similar to shaving cream) and pumped through the sewer line. This foam will kill any roots it comes in contact with but will not damage the tree/plant. Root foaming is best done 6-8 weeks after the line has been cleared as this is when the roots are just starting to re-grow and are the right stage to be destroyed.   Performed annually, you can rest easy knowing that the section of drain treated comes with a 12 month warranty. Clearing the drain regularly promotes root re-growth. Annual root treatment discourages re-growth and the potential to damage pipes permanently.
  3. 3.Relining/Patching – is a non-invasive method of inserting a new pipe inside your old pipes. This is the ultimate in sewer, drain and stormwater pipe rehabilitation. This process involves placing a new pipe inside the old pipe through a process called Cured-in-Place-Pipe inversion re-The technology works by pushing a liner through the existing pipe that has been impregnated with a proprietary epoxy lining. As it winds through the pipe, it places a new pipe inside the old pipe without having to excavate your driveway, lawns and garden beds.
  4. 4.Excavation and replacement of pipesInvolves digging down to the sewer line where possible and cutting out the damaged section of line. A new section of PVC pipe is inserted replacing the old pipe. While this process is very effective, it can be costly and invasive when the sewer line runs under garden beds, driveways, buildings etc.

Let our experts advise you of the best option for your situation!

You have got to be Joking!

"Did you hear that someone broke into our local police station and stole the toilet? Right now the cops have nothing to go on....."

"A local doctor called us out in the middle of the night because one of his toilets was blocked. He insisted that it was urgent and that we attend immediately. Upon arrival we lifted the toilet lid, threw in two aspirins, and said 'If it's still there in the morning, give us another ring.'"
